Bobcats Team Up with the Salvation Army to Spread Christmas Cheer
January 07, 2010

On a cold Thursday in December, a group of 23 Ohio University Alumni gathered at the Columbus Fair Grounds to help the less fortunate bring happiness to their homes.  The Salvation Army Christmas Cheer Program gives families the opportunity to shop for one Christmas present per child and provides several boxes of food for families in need.  The OU Volunteers helped pick out toys and box up packages of food to give to the families.  The time commitment was only 3 hours, but volunteering brought countless smiles and several tears to the faces of OU alum.

Stay tuned for more volunteer opportunities and come out and volunteer with us soon!

Message of THANKS from the Salvation Army
January 07, 2010

Dear Jamie,

On behalf of all of us at The Salvation Army, I want to thank you for coordinating the OU Young Alumni group to help with Christmas Cheer again this year.  I hope everyone enjoyed the evening.  We look forward to seeing your volunteers every year--they are always enthusiastic and fun.  This year we were able to provide food and toys to 6,939 families through Christmas Cheer, the most ever since we started the program.  We appreciate your help in making this happen and hope to see you again next December!

Thanks again and we wish you all the best for the New Year,

Jean

2nd Annual Flipping for Toys
December 16, 2009

The tension had been building for months.  Who would be victorious in the 2nd Annual Flipping for Toys Flip Cup Tournament which took place on Friday, December 4 at the Lodge Bar?

15 teams of 5 battled it out on the flip cup tables as the Ohio University Bobcat football team scrapped on the football field with Central Michigan for the MAC Championship title.  Approximately 130 people were in attendance to cheer on their favorites in both competitions, and the private room of Lodge Bar was packed with excitement.

The Bobcat football team might not have been victorious that night, but the Jolly Ole’ St. Flips dominated every team they faced and remained undefeated throughout the entire tournament to take home the title.

Kids in need of a happy holiday were also winners that night as the tournament brought in 78 donated toys and $495 in monetary donations given to the Columbus Firefighters 4 Kids Toy Drive.
